Executive Business English
(30 lessons = 22.5 hours per week)
Course Duration
The duration of each of these courses may vary depending on each client's requirements. Please discuss your client’s requirements with ETC staff prior to their enrolment. The standard course consists of 30 lessons of Business English tuition per week over 2 weeks.
Structure of the course
Each English for Special Purposes course consists of:
- 30 lessons per week of specialised ESP tuition.
- projects, assignments, case studies, seminars, lectures and group sessions.
- progress reports and assignments.
- optional visits to relevant places of interests.
Entry Requirements
Please consult the Director of Studies for information regarding the course entry dates. The minimum age for entry to this course is eighteen. Furthermore, (except by special arrangement) an upper-intermediate level of English is required for entry to the course. Clients may be required to take an aptitude test (prior to arrival at ETC) to judge whether their standard of English is sufficient for this course. They may wish to follow a course of General English before beginning their course to make sure that they gain the maximum benefit from their studies.
Maximum Group Size
There is a maximum group size of eight, in order to allow optimum interaction between group members and the trainer.
Assessment and Certification
If a client follows an ETC English for Special Purposes course, he or she will receive a certificate on satisfactory completion of all coursework and assessment pieces. We will also supply periodic progress reports on request.

Aims of the Course
To enable clients to communicate effectively in a range of business situations and have the linguistic resources needed to follow a business degree course. To give clients the skills necessary for them to perform effectively in English in a business context. Clients are encouraged to apply any business knowledge and experience that they might have as they work through the course material. Course books will be supplemented with material taken from other sources.

Delivery and after-sales.

Marketing and sales.
Meetings.
Operations and processes.
A new job.
Working together.
A special project (business simulation).
Testing and Progress Monitoring
There will be an initial placement test for entry to this course, plus a needs analysis for client-trainer orientation and:
- continuous assessment on performance and progress.
- monthly progress assessment tests.
- one Final Assessment Test.
Clients will have the opportunity to discuss their progress with their tutor following each assessment. The Centre's academic staff will be happy to provide any additional counselling that might be necessary.
External Exam: Cambridge BEC – Vantage Level (ie. Level 2). This exam is aimed at learners who wish to obtain a business-related English language qualification. Currently there are 3 levels (Preliminary, Vantage and Higher), each of which assesses clients in the four skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking in a business context.
Clients may prepare for the Cambridge BEC Vantage-level (ie. Level 2) examination within the ETC Business English course. Clients wishing to do so will need to study for at least 8 weeks in order to prepare fully for the exam.
